Mental Health Month at THC: May 2022

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As a nonprofit that prioritizes a holistic approach to health and healing, we are eager to take advantage of any and every opportunity to advocate for the importance of mental health. It is our hope that, with more conversation around mental health, more individuals will seek professional help through providers such as the Trent Hill Center.

The National Alliance on Mental Health reports that, in the U.S. alone, 1 in 20 adults experiences a serious mental illness every year, and more than 51 million adults deal with mental illness every day. As for youth, 1 in 6 age 6-17 experiences a mental health condition every year. With these statistics, it’s hard to deny the urgency of our nation’s mental health needs.

At the Trent Hill Center, counseling services have always been an integral part of our service delivery. As we grow, we are working to position ourselves as a premiere provider of mental health counseling services in our community because we believe that, by expanding our service footprint, we are living into our mission of partnering with children and families to cultivate thriving, healing, and community.

In order to adhere to this mission, Trent Hill Center employs licensed counselors trained in trauma-informed care and contracts with a psychiatric nurse practitioner to provide counseling services to residents, their families, and community clients. These services include but are not limited to: diagnostic evaluations, medication management, addictions counseling, trauma-focused behavioral therapy, crisis intervention, mental health & behavioral screenings, family preservation and reunification services, and drug and alcohol abuse counseling.

While we talk about mental health every day at the Center, we know it's a subject that's tempting to shy away from. However, we encourage you to join in on the conversation about mental health. Have questions? Ask them!

And remember: everyone has mental health, just like everyone has physical health. It's just a matter of how well you take care of it!
