Independent Living Program

Helping Youth Transition to Adulthood

The Independent Living Program is a residential program designed to prepare youth ages 18-21, who are either transitioning out of foster care or experiencing housing insecurity, for adulthood and independence. The Independent Living Program provides safe, apartment-style housing for youth and equips them with the skills, support, and resources necessary to meet their personal, educational, and employment-related goals.

Expanding Our Walls

This program relies heavily on a significant level of community involvement; individuals, businesses, organizations, and other groups are asked to share their skill sets and expertise with residents to help them complete requirements of each of the ten program areas: auto maintenance, career support, citizenship, communication skills, educational exploration, financial literacy, health & well-being, household management, personal safety, and social-emotional skills.

If you have a skill set that lies within any of these categories, we welcome your involvement and investment into our community’s youth. Please take a moment to fill out our volunteer form.

“By facilitating a smoother transition to independence, THC’s Independent Living Program aims to shore up any cracks in the foundation before launching these young people into the real world.”- Lyn Joyce, THC Volunteer

Our Vision: Every child and every family will be valued, encouraged, and welcomed in their safe, stable communities.
